With Valentine's Day just over a month
away I thought it would be a nice idea to host a little giveaway to
thank you all for your continued support for
StylishOrganicFamilyLiving.com.
Jewelry has always been a popular gift
choice among Valentine sweethearts so that's exactly what we're going
with! We're giving away one pair of handcrafted earrings from Revy
made from refinished coconut in Valentine's Day pink (colour may vary slightly from the photo below). Win them for
yourself or share the love with that special someone.
These earrings are extra sweet because
they were handmade by the fair trade Women's Coop of Jovenes
Esperanza, which translates to 'young hope' in English. The artisans
in this El Salvadoran coop reside around the capital city of San
Salvador and work together to create jewelry from natural and
recycled items. The income they generate can make a big difference in
their lives and can serve towards a better future for their children.
Revy is an American company that works
with several El Salvadoran coops like Jovenes Esperanza to develop
jewelry which appeals to U.S. and Canadian markets. At
StylishOrganicFamilyLiving.com we're very proud to be a distributor
of these beautiful designs!
For a chance to win these stylish earrings please use the Rafflecopter widget below. The giveaway will end on Thursday,
January 24, 2013 and the winner will be chosen at random through
Rafflecopter. He or she will be announced here and will also be contacted through email within 48 hours of the contest closing. Please note that prize winnings can only be mailed within Canada and the U.S. mainland. Good luck!

We recently added
several new colourful styles of earrings to our collection of handmade jewelry
that I'm very excited about! All of the designs featured below are
made from natural materials, such as coconut shell and calabash
gourd, so they are lightweight and easy to wear.
We purchase all of
our jewelry from a great company called Revy Fair Trade. Revy
works with artisan coops in El Salvador to produce all sorts of
unique jewelry designs and accessories for women, all of which are
handmade in fair trade facilities. Their products are also
eco-friendly, so when you purchase these items you're not only
doing something good for the environment you're also doing something
good for the people of El Salvador.
If you're starting to think about stocking stuffers, a pair of these earrings are a great choice. They also make fun birthday presents or thank you gifts.
Without further
ado, here are some of the latest styles that we've added to our stylish collection:

The criteria for what constitutes fair trade varies according to different organizations and individuals; however, the general concept centers around the exchange of goods under conditions that are both economically and socially just for all parties involved. Free trade, on the other hand, is an agreement between two (or more) countries wherein their governments agree not to interfere with the import or export of goods by applying tariffs, subsidies or quotas.
While some will argue that free trade is the gateway to economic growth, in my opinion, this is not always the case for developing nations because their sectors are challenged to compete with the influx of foreign goods. Even in situations where a country’s GDP rises due to a free trade agreement, it does not necessarily equate to a reduction in poverty at the individual level. This is a very complex topic but the main point I’m attempting to make is that free trade generally stands to benefit the interests of multinational corporations much more so than the interests of the people who actually live in developing nations.
This is why at StylishOrganicFamilyLiving.com we aim to support businesses that adhere to the principles of fair trade. Take, for example, Revy Direct: a company that specializes in fair trade accessories made by artisans who live and work in El Salvador.
Revy provides their valued artisans with fair wages and long-term job security as well as transparency by sharing costs and pricing. The end result is a series of beautifully-crafted women’s accessories (including jewelry) made from natural products such as clay, bamboo, coconut shells and a variety of seeds.
